·The Society recognizes that it must assume, also, a role of advocacy for those who are defenseless or voiceless.
·We help Friends in Need regardless of religion, ethnic or social background, health, gender, or political opinions.
·Members of the Society give their time and talents voluntarily; 100% of your donation goes to help people in need in our community.
·In the past year our conference was able to help, through donations like yours, 949 people living within the boundaries of both the St. Thomas More and St. Laurence parishes on the west side of Elgin.
We would love for you to be a part of this ministry! There are many ways to participate.
*Active members participate regularly in meetings and visits to the poor. They act as Leads who arrange and lead home visits and complete post-visit activities. Seconds are members who accompany leads on home visits. Additional roles include fielding phone messages, coordinating special events, interpreting for Spanish-speaking Friends in Need, organizing fundraisers, managing our social media, and serving as conference officers.
*Associate members are members who are unable to attend meetings on a regular basis but help out as needed.
*Contributing members are members who provide monetary support to the conference, but do not engage directly in our work.
